appolik, so do they speak english AND french over there in Canada? because here on the South of the US there are so many Hispanics that one could as well learn to speak Spanish because all those illegal (and sometimes legal) immigrants are not up to learning any new languages that's so annoying that they expect everybody to speak THEIR native language

A lot of people are bilingual, but not everyone. There are two provinces, where people speak French and it's their first language - those are Quebec and Manitoba. The rest of Canadians have English as their first language. If you work in the government, then you have to know both of the languages; if not - it's up to you. Both lnguages are official, and all of the products, sighns and manuals are on both English and French. Oh, and I've heard a lot about South America having more Spanish-speaking people. From the looks of it, as it is now, they don't even need to learn English...

yeah, because the american government goes nuts and prints all the papers in 2 languages and has interpreters for them everywhere and those hispanics are so lazy and disrespectful they don't bother themselves with learning the English language. as an immigrant who actually knows the native language, it makes me very mad. english is a very easy language! конкурс LOST-comic (кликабельно)
Poisoned, I agree. Not that there is such a problem, but I can imagine what it is like to be in a group of people, who speak their native language that I don't understand (thanks to the superior amount of Chinese people in ESL classes). It really is annoyng. Some days ago, i read an article, that American goverment organised acts of terrorism on September 11th(2001). I suggest to remember, what you did and where you were on this black and tragical day... How did you recognize about this event? I celebrated my mother's birthday. My father put on the TV and said: "What film is going now? There should go the news!" And next moment he understood, that the plane had crashed into WTC (two towers).
Alexxfiles815, i liked your avatar with Juliett better too she had such a nice smile. i didn't even know it is Kate on this one lol but that's a good idea for all of us to try and remember what we were doing on that memorable day. As for me, it started as a normal day at the university and then, after it all happened, the teachers turned on all the Tvs in the building and everyone was standing in the hallways, watching the horrible news, trying to figure out what had happened. everyone was upset and very quiet, all the teachers and students and staff. when i got home we were watching the news for the next several days. i visited the ground zero several years ago, it was such a touching and humbling experience! i am going to show you a couple of pics that i took there.
here you go, i got lucky and managed to find that old cd with the pics.
my favorite one is the one with the pigeons, birds of Peace. so symbolic!
you can offer them to study some russian :I think, they'll believe the fact, that english is quite easy to learn
I didn't even try to convince them, just made them a little more open-minded with pointing out that there are more Alphabets than just Latin And if they consider French and English being very different (they are quite similar, I was learning French, while I was in Russia, although I successfully forgotten almost all of it by now), it wasn't hard to make them think otherwise.

hm... I was a little girl, when it happened. My granny, mom and I decided to watch a programm on TV. And when we switched it on, we saw this breaking news...
Oh, sorry, I wasn't on topic. Though I was in Russia and I was little (10 years old or so), I remember I couldn't believe the number of people who died that day. That was scary.
