February 25, 2010 -- 'Dexter' fans have been searching for any news on their favorite show since the shocking season 4 finale where Dexter found his wife Rita dead, seemingly murdered by the Trinity Killer. News on when the show may return for season 5 was up in the air after it was revealed that the series' main character Michael C. Hall was battling cancer.

According to AOL the season 4 finale "pushes the reset button" on the entire show. If Rita is in fact dead and gone, which she is according to actress Julie Benz, then what will the future hold for our lovable serial killer Dexter Morgan? TV experts speculated and came up with some possible storylines for season 5.

1. Dexter will be forced into single parenting not only Harrison but Aster and Cody as well. But if writers are trying to "reset" the show it seems that the children would be placed with their grandparents, leaving Dexter to act on his dark impulses.

2. Dexter's anger will overcome him. After losing his connection with Rita and Trinity he will feel lost. This is a very possibe option according to Dexter Morgan himself Michael C. Hall. "Undoubtedly, Dexter is permanently changed going forward because of what Trinity has done, because of Rita's murder," Hall said in a recent interview. "And I think for the first time, that Dexter will be saddled with this appetite for vengeance that can't be sated. Perhaps he'll slam shut every door he's opened in terms of his vulnerable, emotional human self."

3. Dexter will be a major suspect in Rita's murder. Rita's murder comes just hours after Deb tells Dexter she knows The Ice Truck Killer was his brother. Could this be reason enough in the department's eyes to investigate Dexter?

4. Dexter will change his ways and struggle to live a "normal" life taking care of his kids and falling in to his work. Dexter's guilt over Rita's murder and finding Harrison in a pool of blood force Dexter to make a decision. Not wanting Harrison to be doomed to the same life as himself Dexter will make an effort to silence his "dark passenger."

5. Dexter's anger will send him into a downward spiral where he loses control, ultimately going on a major killing spree. Dexter's grief will be transferred into his extracurricular activities. He'll lose all sense of reality and become a killer machine.

6. It will all be a dream. Rita isn't really dead and Dexter didnt' really kill Trinity. Dexter will wake from his dream and realize what could be if he doesn't find and kill Trinity. This isn't the most likely to happen. Julie Benz the actress who plays Dexter's wife Rita Morgan told radaronline.com that as far as she knows there are no plans for her to come back alive or as a ghost.
